Best Designed Websites

Time for some Friday fun. Being super busy with 9rules and Fine Fools I haven’t had time to patrol the CSS galleries to see what are the hot new designs out there. Maybe you could help me out. What are the hottest new designs that you have seen in the last couple of months?

As of right now I am feeling:

I’m sure there are more but those are just off the top of my head.

  1. Although it is a bit different than the two that you posted (it’s not a blog), I have been digging the design of Emotions by Mike.

  5. I totally dig Pixeldiva.

It’s so classy and yet totally different from all current design trends. It features unmatched integration of photoblog and normal blog.

  6. I too am lovin’ the Smith ‘Black’ (orderedlist.com). Just let’s you know that shades of grey can still look good.

  7. I really dig the redesign of thefwa.com (Favourite Website Awards) It resembles (to me anyway) a flash version of StyleGala.

It’s a 3 column liquid layout in Flash too, smartly designed and minimal looking.

  8. all flash, but very nice - barbarian group

TextDrive just did a nice redo

  11. Totally biased, but I like the simple design of my products website: http://www.userscape.com/products/helpspot/

Not as flashy as some but very easy to use, which is key when you’re actually trying to sell a product.

  12. I just finished my design, you may want to take a look. It’s clean, white and very simple.

  13. Update: I forgot this one: http://www.37signals.com/svn/ it’s a great desing. I like it alot! simple, plain, not too much colors and yet, it’s powerful. I’m inloved with that design!

Hope some day I can pull something like that off! because it’s just simple!

By Javier Cabrera (ClearYourMind) on December 2, 2005 7:35 pm

  14. Thanks Scrivs! It was actually Whitespace inspired. I’m sure that has some subconscious bearing on your reasoning ;-).

By Justin Palmer on December 2, 2005 8:20 pm

  15. Well this on is in Portuguese but it’s a friend’s weblog using flash+php very nice design

By Joe Lencioni on December 6, 2005 8:25 am

  26. Most definitely http://deldindesign.com.

(OK, so it’s still in shambles after the custom php to textpattern conversion…)

    By Jon-Michael on December 6, 2005 10:18 pm

  27. Quit with the Shameless plugs of your own web sites.

On a different note… I like the design of http://www.advantageconsultingservices.com. It’s very clean and simple… good color choices as well.

  30. When you pimp your own sites (9rules) you sound like a Sony exec saying he/she viewed all the latest mp3 players out there in the market and the only ones of interest are the Sony ones.

I know you shooting for that whole viral marketing deal, but you need to hide it better than this. This just screams “My little club is the coooooolest, nanananananana”.

At least disclose which links are 9rules, the same way all BIG companies do (CNN.com when referencing any other Time Warner company and Slashdot when referencing any other company under the OSTG umbrella).

By Jason on December 7, 2005 1:27 pm

  31. I thought me mentioning that I haven’t found the time to go around to the galleries was hints enough that the only sites I am aware of now are 9r member sites. If our big thing was only letting in pretty design sites then sure I would disclose that fact, otherwise no need on my part. However, I will try better in the future.

By Scrivs on December 7, 2005 3:29 pm

  32. Shemeless plug… Just finished the re-design on my personal site PushStop.com.

By Caleb on December 7, 2005 4:06 pm

  33. Here is an interesting WordPress site with a fluid, three-column, triple-loop, strict-XHTML design that looks clean and neat and makes me blush (a little):

    Perishable Press

By The Oracle on December 8, 2005 4:26 am

  34. What do you think about Vivabit? http://www.vivabit.co.uk/

By Cristian Tirsan on December 8, 2005 7:24 am

  35. I won’t self promote ;) …

But I agree with thefwa.com, that’s a nice site. I love the dock hide feature as well. I’m not a fan of total Flash sites.. and the hard to read font on the right side is the main reason.

I like the simple slight designs like my site, plus

    http://avalonstar.com/

  36. Really nice and good site http://www.ilovedzn.com/ But other posteted sites also were good.

By Robis on December 9, 2005 8:52 pm

  37. http://www.coudal.com

Excellent example of simple deign and good content combined…what every boy wants

By Mehorpa on December 10, 2005 5:59 am

  38. Of course, I love my baby: FreshArrival

By richard on December 12, 2005 10:15 am

  39. I would feel real bad if I didn’t add DeepBlue to this list. Very nice design, makes me feel at home on his page.

By ReaLiTy on December 13, 2005 9:10 am

  40. the later ones that I noticed in the galeries,

    http://www.strit.de/
    http://penandthink.com/

Although, I believe that most of showcase sites are a bit out of focus, the quantity seems to get in the way of quality, a lot.
the second one has been around for a while now, although it has recently been reentered.

The fact that I mentioned only 2 sites says it all.
