Freelancing Traits
Obviously these are not all the traits required to become successful and you might get away with missing one or two, but these are just some of the things I have experienced over my short lifespan that I thought were needed.

This year seems to be the year of the independent businessman. Many individuals are breaking out on their own and starting new ventures. While going out on your own is a very exciting time, it can also be the most stressful part of your life.
I thought I would share my story on how I got be where I am now and what traits you will need if you wish to make it on your own.
Many people have been wondering when the next round of submissions would be taking place for entry into the 9rules Network and I am happy to announce that we will open them up this Friday starting at 12:00 AM Eastern time. Once again we will only have the window for submissions open for 24 hours so if you are interested in joining make sure to get your entry in between 12:00AM and 11:59PM on July 1st.
We are looking for all types of content-based websites and if your site is different from what we currently offer our readers then even better.
There have been a couple of great discussions concerning the 9rules Network, but the best one to date was started by Matthew Pennell. The entry and the comments go into great detail as to what the network is about and how everyone is starting to view it. If you would like an inside perspective on how things are going for members then you might be interested in Darice’s perspective.
Unforuntately, after the last round was over I missed emailing some of the people who submitted their sites to explain why their site was not accepted into the Network. If you are one of those people do not hesitate to email me at scrivs{AT}9rules.com to let me know of my oversight. I have no excuses for this happening and would like to correct it as soon as possible.
UPDATE: The submission page.
Not too often are you able to mingle with designers and developers outside of your area and even harder to establish a connection. Josh Dura is setting up a poker tournament for all designers and developers and I think this is a great opportunity for anyone interested to increase their social/business network in a relaxed setting.
If you are interested make sure to check out the details. I would signup, but my time and my poker skills are very limited. But money changes everything…
I promised myself that I would have an entry for Garrett up today, but instead I have nothing to show but an interview I did with Chris Garrett. It really is tough to beat an interview done at 3:30am.
Chris asks some good questions, especially someone who is at the ripe ol’ puberty-starved age of 15.
You’ve recently begun work on overhauling the 9rules network, was it hard for you to open up the network to others after it had been entirely yours for so long?
It wasn’t hard because I knew that I simply had run out of ways to improve the network overall. I am fortunate to have a team of 3 individuals who are capable of taking the network to levels that I could only dream of. Add to that high-quality sites that I know if I tried to do myself would result in 28 different failures.
Have you got any plans for sites once 9rules is complete?
I am not sure 9rules will ever be complete, but there are always plans for new sites. I get asked constantly when I am going to start an Adult-themed site akla Fleshbot because for some reason people believe I would be successful in that niche so that is an area I might look into venturing in the future.
Make sure to read the interview in it its entirety and browse through Chris’ archives while you are at it.
Now I know how difficult it can be to run a CSS gallery site. Sometimes you go through lags where there just isn’t any good entries while other times it’s hard to keep up with all the quality you have coming in. In the case of CSS Drive though you have to chuckle a little bit at this entry.
Anybody see what’s wrong with it?
Nothing wrong with liking a template I suppose.
